Surface mining right-click on the quarry and on Select Top/Bottom command select the surface (topography) model to be used as the top/bottom surface in the quarry design via the 3D screen. With this selection, the surface is transferred into the quarry as a top/bottom surface. 

The selected surfaces are considered as the surface of the quarry to be designed. The lines to be created do not exceed these surface boundaries, even if they are defined with a higher value than the surface height, the lines are automatically limited to the maximum surface elevations.
